Your weekend guide
Adventures in Stavanger and beyond January 23.- 25. 2026
Hi,
With the current “more armchair than adventures” state I am in, I just did a rinse and repeat of last weekend this weekend. Kvassheim Fyr + NIK = <3 Did good for my soul (and my kids’ energy levels). Also heard from one of you that the open farm at Orre was very good (and with free food, cake and refreshments at a Jæren farm I can understand why).
I guess you have figured by now, but I really want to try as many things in life as possible. And I generally feel that of the million things I have tried, the free (or almost free) events are the best. And, in my experience, this goes for everywhere in the world. There is something about it lowering expectations on both ends (for both attendees and hosts) that makes it even that much more magic. And equally often I gravitate towards events where the hosts have different lifestyles, interests, etc than me, and often new friendships emerge. My hope is that by reading this newsletter you will have amazing experiences like that too.
Over to the new weekend ahead. The Stavanger region in January is anything but boring. As always, there is something for any interest, inside and outside. And lots of pizza! Go alone, bring a friend, find new friends, bring the kids, but most of all enjoy! Life is short and there are adventures waiting at every corner <3
If you’re reading this for the first time - welcome! This is my weekly newsletter, sent out every Wednesday (nyhetsbrev på norsk her). My philosophy in life: every place in the world has something exciting happening. I believe there is always something to experience, no matter where you are (in fact, I’m willing to bet I can find something for you no matter where in the world you are reading from*). Sometimes it is big events, other times small experiences that make a weekend memorable. Everything I pick out is something I am considering doing myself, with or without two small children.
These are my tips for things to do in Stavanger and beyond this weekend:
Heads up: often the pages are in Norwegian, but you can always use Google Translate to check them out.
Friday
Sola Supercup: Said to be Norway’s most spectacular track cycling event with riders from all over the country. High speed, intense duels and an electric atmosphere in the stands. Children under 5 enter free, children over 5 NOK 50, and adults NOK 100. From 17:30 to 22:30. More info here.
Sans kids
Vinverket - Piemonte, Porcini & Pizza : The oldest butcher in town is hosting a pizza and Italian wine night. Reservation required. From 17:00 and on. More info here.
Syttiseks - 5 års jubileumsfeiring: Another town, another pizza. But this one is to celebrate the 5-year anniversary of a restaurant and art gallery. All you can eat pizza - yummyyy! Tickets required. From 19:00 to midnight. More info here.
Saturday
Superlørdag: Bouncy castles, inflatable slides, balloon animals, face painting, hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn and play. With the goal to help make a difference in the region by creating a community where families from different backgrounds can find shared joy and belonging (love this!). All for free. From 12:00 to 14:00. More info here.
Hele Norge båler (“All of Norway Makes Campfires”): Scouts all over Norway invite everyone to enjoy cozy campfires at various locations. It’s a bit hard to get a full overview of where, but I found at least the details of Nærbø, Bogafjell and Madla (click the link for details). Or you can make your own (tips on how here). Free and no registration required.
New exhibition Hå Gamle Prestegård: Since this place suits everyone of all ages, with or without an interest in art (those without can enjoy the café or the surrounding nature), I recommend this place again and again. There is also a free bus from Nærbø train station if you want to travel by train (reserve here). As always, it is free admission on opening day. From 12:00 to 17:00. More info here.
Sans kids
Pizza making class: Told you it was a weekend of pizza! But with this one you can learn how to make your own Napoli style. From 12:00 to 17:00. Ticketed. More info here.
Sunday
Open Hall at Ålgård: Need some steam out of your small ones? Free play in a large hall sounds like a great way to spend a Sunday morning. Costs NOK 20 per child. From 10:00 to 12:00. More info here.
Turboklubben Gramstad: Join DNT’s Turboklubb for an outdoor activity making bird food at Gramstad. Free, but registration is required. From 11:00 to 12:30. More info here.
Ice Skating Plogen parken: Last day to enjoy the outdoor ice rink at Klepps new playground. Free but bring your own skates (or borrow through Frilager). More info here.
All weekend
Italian Weekend at Sandi: Pastry chef Sandra invites you to a weekend of Italian dolce with classics like tiramisu, panna cotta and cannoli. Saturday and Sunday from 13:00 to 17:00. More info here.
Marked days at Steinnesvåg 46: Two local gals wanted to bring vintage shopping to the island of Finnøy and created a weekend-only vintage shop. My gang and I went when it opened in November and were pleasantly surprised by the playroom for the kids, the selection of vintage goods, the great coffee (my husband’s review) and stunning views to enjoy that said coffee. Open this weekend from 12:00 to 17:00. More info here.
This week’s tips
Place I want to try: Ramsen Gård. A beautiful farm with apple juice and sparkling apple cider from local Ryfylke apples located at Finnøy. They have a store with other local goodies as well. P.S. If you go vintage shopping at Finnøy this weekend (see All weekend) you can combine with this stop.
A good stop anytime: Orre Friluftshus. Another gem along the coast. Small but fun information center at a fantastic location. Tucked in behind the beautiful Orre beach, you can enjoy a walk to the beach before going inside to eat your lunch or buy something from their cafe. You can also use their BBQ outside that is sheltered from the wind. Free entrance. Open Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 to 16:00.
Hope you are inspired to try some of these things and that you have a great weekend!
Thank you so much for reading my newsletter. My goal is to send this out every Wednesday with my weekend tips (and occasionally weekday ones) for Stavanger and the surrounding area.
